Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital

HREA | Healthcare Real Estate Advisors is pleased to announce the real estate sale of the award-winning Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital (KSSH) and the adjacent medical office building (collectively, the Portfolio).

Located in Wichita, KS, Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital is a regional center for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the spine, neck, and joint. Dedicated to improving the quality of life for their patients, the physicians of KSSH practice a team approach, providing patients with access to a specialized team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, neuroradiologists, internal medicine physicians, and nurses.

Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital was founded in 2003 and is physician-owned in partnership with Surgery Partners. With 35 licensed in-patient beds, seven (7) operating rooms, two (2) procedure rooms, utilizing state-of-the-art Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery, as well as the most advanced imaging technology, SSH provides a unique offering on the Great Plains, including a comprehensive diagnostic center, an array of treatment modalities, and highly trained surgeons, designed to provide individualized care from its compassionate and highly trained staff.

As a physician-owned surgical hospital, KSSH has a primary focus in spine and joint surgical procedures, serving a 10-county region with a population of nearly 800,000. KSSH is also an award-winning hospital that has been recognized for its clinical excellence by many surveys, including Top-100 Best Spine Surgery Excellence Award for Hospitals (2020, 2021, 2022) and America’s Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award (2021 & 2022).

Connected to KSSH, Abay Medical Plaza is home to the Pain Center at Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital and Abay Neuroscience Center. Both groups are affiliated with KSSH and offer patients convenient access to a range of treatment options related to pain management, neuroscience, and physical therapy, and serve as a patient referral source for spine, neurosurgery, and orthopedic procedures.

"As a patient-focused and physician-owned specialty hospital, KSSH provides exceptional surgical and medical care in an environment of personalized service. With many areas of the country without neurosurgical coverage, this has resulted in higher patient volume for the Hospital," said Christopher Stai, Managing Director of HREA. “What made this transaction more nuanced was the planned joint venture with Surgery Partners, which occurred simultaneously with the sale of the real estate. We worked closely with their advisor, Matt Searles and Merritt Healthcare Advisors to accomplish a successful outcome for both the real estate and the merger.”
